Sakata Seed Corporation (TSE: 1377) reported consolidated results for the fiscal year ended May 31, 2026 (FY5/2026) under Japanese GAAP. Revenue rose 12.2% year-on-year to a record ¥104,280 million; operating profit rose 7.1% to ¥13,122 million; ordinary profit rose 16.0% to ¥14,278 million; and net profit attributable to owners of the parent rose 25.2% to ¥12,163 million. Basic EPS was ¥284.46, up from ¥222.58 a year earlier.

A world leader in seeds

Sakata is one of the world's largest seed companies — a global leader in broccoli seeds — with a wide international footprint across the Americas, Europe and Asia. Robust overseas demand and a weaker yen supported the top line during the year, while the ordinary-profit gain outpaced operating profit on favourable non-operating items.

Strong balance sheet; comprehensive income surges

Total assets stood at ¥216,778 million and net assets at ¥178,983 million, an equity ratio of 82.3%; book value per share was ¥4,223.03. Comprehensive income jumped 268.9% to ¥23,931 million, lifted by foreign-currency translation adjustments and valuation gains on securities. Operating cash flow was ¥9,174 million.

Dividend raised to ¥85

The FY5/2026 annual dividend rose to ¥85.00 per share (¥35 interim + ¥50 year-end) from ¥75.00, a consolidated payout ratio of 29.9%. Management guides an annual dividend of ¥90.00 (¥40 interim + ¥50 year-end) for FY5/2027, continuing a steady pattern of shareholder-return increases.

FY27 guidance points lower

For FY5/2027 the company guides revenue of ¥110,000 million (+5.5%) and operating profit of ¥13,500 million (+2.9%), but ordinary profit of ¥13,500 million (-5.5%) and net profit of ¥10,000 million (-17.8%), with EPS of ¥236.63. The step-down in bottom-line guidance reflects management's assumption that the exceptional currency tailwind that boosted FY5/2026 will not repeat, normalizing earnings from an unusually strong base year.
