Iwai Cosmo Holdings, Inc. (TSE: 8707), the Osaka-based holding company for a retail-focused securities brokerage, reported consolidated results for the first quarter of the fiscal year ending March 2027 (April 1 – June 30, 2026) under Japanese GAAP. Operating revenue jumped 40.5% to ¥9,496 million, operating profit surged 81.3% to ¥4,369 million, ordinary profit rose 74.0% to ¥4,687 million, and net profit attributable to owners of the parent climbed 55.5% to ¥3,398 million. Basic earnings per share were ¥144.67, up from ¥93.03 a year earlier.
Retail trading drives a strong start
The result reflects buoyant conditions in Japan's retail equity market during the quarter. Brisk equity brokerage commissions and trading gains lifted net operating revenue 40.2% to ¥9,381 million, from ¥6,691 million a year earlier, giving the group one of its strongest opening quarters in recent years. As a securities firm whose earnings are closely tied to trading volumes, Iwai Cosmo benefits directly when retail investors are active.
Margins expand
Profitability expanded sharply on the higher revenue base. Operating profit rose 81.3% and ordinary profit 74.0%, both far outpacing the 40% top-line gain, while net profit climbed 55.5%. Comprehensive income more than doubled, up 158.3% to ¥4,005 million. At the quarter-end on June 30, 2026, total assets stood at ¥232,583 million against ¥213,027 million three months earlier, net assets were ¥74,425 million, and the equity ratio was 32.0%, down from 34.9% as the balance sheet expanded with trading activity.
