DMS Inc. DMS Inc. · Tokyo Stock Exchange

DMS Inc. (TSE: 9782), a Tokyo-listed direct-marketing services company whose operations span direct mail, logistics, sales promotion and events, reported first-quarter results for the three months to June 30, 2026 under Japanese GAAP on a non-consolidated basis. Revenue fell 3.8% to ¥6,547 million from ¥6,804 million a year earlier, but every profit line moved the other way: operating profit rose 27.3% to ¥299 million, ordinary profit 26.3% to ¥324 million, and quarterly net profit 15.4% to ¥222 million. Earnings per share came to ¥40.97, up from ¥34.74. No diluted figure was reported.

Profit rises on a smaller revenue base

The defining feature of the quarter is the gap between the top and bottom lines. Revenue contracted after a 14.6% expansion in the comparable quarter a year earlier, yet operating profit grew by more than a quarter. That combination lifted the operating margin to 4.6% from 3.5%, an improvement of roughly 1.1 percentage points, and the ordinary margin to 4.9% from 3.8%. The company's summary disclosure carries no segment breakdown, so the composition of the improvement is not identified in the filing.

Running ahead of the guidance pace

DMS left both its first-half and full-year forecasts unchanged. It still guides first-half revenue of ¥13,900 million (+0.3%), operating profit of ¥555 million (+4.8%), ordinary profit of ¥585 million (+4.2%) and net profit of ¥410 million (+3.4%), for half-year EPS of ¥75.56. For the full year to March 2027 it guides revenue of ¥30,700 million (+1.3%), operating profit of ¥1,530 million (+2.0%), ordinary profit of ¥1,590 million (+0.5%) and net profit of ¥1,100 million (+0.2%), for EPS of ¥202.71.

Measured against those targets, the first quarter ran ahead of the implied pace. The ¥299 million of operating profit is about 19.5% of the full-year plan and roughly 54% of the six-month plan, even though the annual plan assumes operating-profit growth of only 2.0%. Revenue, at ¥6,547 million, represents about 21.3% of the annual target. Ordinary profit again exceeded operating profit — by ¥25 million this year and ¥21 million last year — indicating net non-operating income, though the summary does not disclose what it consists of.

A smaller share count flatters EPS

Earnings per share rose about 17.9%, ahead of the 15.4% increase in net profit, because the average number of shares outstanding for the quarter fell to 5,426,358 from 5,546,278, a decline of roughly 2.2%. Of the 7,262,020 shares issued, 1,835,764 — just over a quarter of the total — were held in treasury at quarter-end, essentially unchanged from the 1,835,533 held at the March year-end. The reduction in the average count therefore reflects repurchases completed before this quarter rather than buying during it.

Balance sheet and dividend

Total assets stood at ¥19,990 million against ¥20,273 million at the March 31, 2026 year-end, and net assets at ¥15,517 million against ¥15,874 million. The equity ratio eased to 77.6% from 78.3%, leaving the company conservatively financed with more than three-quarters of assets funded by equity. The dividend forecast for the year to March 2027 is unchanged at ¥232.00 per share — ¥110.00 at the interim and ¥122.00 at the year-end — a ¥2 step down from the ¥234.00 paid for the year just ended, and equal to about 114% of the ¥202.71 of forecast earnings per share. The attached quarterly financial statements were not reviewed by a certified public accountant or audit firm, and the company reported no changes in accounting policies or estimates and no restatements.
