Gunosy Q1 FY5/2027 earnings summary

Into the red

Gunosy Inc. (TSE: 6047) reported consolidated results for the first quarter of FY5/2027, from June 1 to August 31, 2026, on October 14, 2026 under Japanese GAAP. Net sales fell 14.5% to ¥1,434 million and gross profit 29.7% to ¥545 million. The company posted an operating loss of ¥49 million against a ¥36 million profit a year earlier and an ordinary loss of ¥24 million against a ¥6 million profit. The net loss attributable to owners of the parent widened to ¥40 million from ¥26 million, or ¥1.77 per share.

Media shrinks, games grow

The Media segment, which includes the Gunosy, NewsLite and au Service Today apps and the game-strategy sites run by subsidiary Game8, saw sales fall 25.7% to ¥1,095 million and segment profit 49.8% to ¥164 million. Game8's overseas sites kept growing, but its Japanese sites lost page views in the absence of big new game releases, and the news apps suffered from fewer users and lower ad prices. The company is reworking Gunosy around a news experience in which users predict, discuss and follow outcomes, and continues to cut costs including advertising.

G Holdings, which publishes social games built on anime and manga licences, grew sales 60.5% to ¥323 million, helped by Haikyu!! TOUCH THE DREAM and the launches of Haikyu!! TOUCH AND CONNECT in June and Yowamushi Pedal Resonance Pedaism in July. Launch advertising kept it in the red, though the segment loss narrowed to ¥40 million from ¥76 million. New businesses, including the IR Hub disclosure-support service, whose cumulative client count roughly quadrupled, grew sales to ¥17 million, and their loss narrowed to ¥30 million from ¥54 million.

Buyback shrinks the balance sheet

Total assets fell 17.1% to ¥10,358 million from May 31, 2026, mainly because cash and deposits dropped by ¥1,971 million. Net assets declined 17.1% to ¥8,915 million, as treasury stock increased by ¥1,283 million under a buyback approved on August 4, 2026 and retained earnings fell by ¥568 million. The equity ratio was 84.9%, against 85.2%.

Outlook and dividend

The FY5/2027 forecast announced on July 15, which is given as a range, is unchanged: net sales of ¥5,094 million to ¥5,257 million, down 20.9% to 18.4%, operating profit of ¥50 million to ¥250 million, ordinary profit of ¥80 million to ¥280 million, and a net loss of ¥179 million to ¥32 million. The company plans a year-end dividend of ¥22, up from ¥13 for FY5/2026.
