Business Description
Mitsui & Co., Ltd. is a general trading company operating across mineral and metal resources, energy, machinery and infrastructure, chemicals, iron and steel products, lifestyle, and innovation and corporate development. It is one of the five sogo shosha in which Berkshire Hathaway holds a long-term stake.
Earnings lean more heavily on upstream resources than at any of its peers: Australian iron ore interests alongside Rio Tinto and BHP, and a broad portfolio of LNG projects, together account for the majority of profit in most years. That gives the shares a strong link to commodity prices, which management has sought to temper by building out healthcare, mobility and power infrastructure businesses.
