Business Description
Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group is the holding company for Japan's largest banking group by total assets, created in 2005 through the merger of Mitsubishi Tokyo Financial Group and UFJ Holdings. It operates through MUFG Bank, Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking, Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities and Mitsubishi UFJ NICOS, covering commercial banking, trust and asset-management services, securities and consumer finance.
The group is the most internationally exposed of Japan's megabanks: it holds a substantial equity stake in Morgan Stanley, owns Krungsri (Bank of Ayudhya) in Thailand, and runs corporate and investment banking operations across Asia, the Americas and Europe. Earnings are reported across customer-facing business groups and a global markets division.
