Business Description
Konami reports four segments. Digital Entertainment — console and mobile games plus the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game — is by far the largest and generates essentially all of group profit. Arcade Games (formerly Amusement) builds arcade machines and card-printing cabinets for amusement facilities; Gaming & Systems sells casino slot machines and the SYNKROS casino-management system, mainly in the US and Australia; and Sports runs the Konami Sports fitness clubs across Japan.
The earnings engine is franchise longevity. The Yu-Gi-Oh! card game sells physical cards worldwide and runs digital versions such as Master Duel, while eFootball, Momotaro Dentetsu and the Professional Baseball Spirits and Pawapuro baseball series are run as live services that earn for years after launch; recent strategy has added remakes and new entries for dormant classics such as Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill. Because digital sales carry little marginal cost, the mix between new releases and ongoing in-game spending drives margins, which it tracks through an IFRS "business profit" measure. Founded in Osaka in 1969 by Kagemasa Kozuki as a jukebox rental and repair business before it moved into arcade games, the company was incorporated in 1973, took the KONAMI GROUP name in 2022 and is now headquartered in Ginza, Tokyo; it reports on a March fiscal year.
