KDDI Corporation (TSE: 9433), Japan's second-largest telecommunications carrier, reported solid full-year results for the fiscal year ended March 2026, disclosing on May 12, 2026 that consolidated revenue under IFRS rose 4.1% year-on-year to ¥6,071,915 million — crossing the ¥6 trillion mark — while operating profit edged up 1.1% to ¥1,099,125 million. Pre-tax profit climbed 4.1% to ¥1,117,904 million, and profit attributable to owners of the parent rose 7.9% to ¥707,112 million, from ¥655,416 million a year earlier. Basic earnings per share advanced to ¥183.59 from ¥161.86.
The result reflects steady growth across KDDI's core telecom franchise and its expanding non-telecom businesses. Profit growth outpaced the top line as the bottom line benefited from a favourable mix and lower tax burden, lifting return on equity to 14.0% and the operating margin to roughly 18.1%. A 2-for-1 stock split took effect on April 1, 2025, and all per-share figures are presented on the post-split basis.
Growth spans mobile, finance, energy and global ICT
KDDI is one of Japan's three major telecom carriers, operating the "au," "UQ mobile" and "povo" mobile brands alongside a broad "satellite-growth" portfolio that spans digital transformation (DX), finance (au Jibun Bank, au PAY), energy and a growing global ICT and data-center business. The revenue gain was underpinned by resilient mobile-services revenue and continued expansion in the finance and energy units, where KDDI has steadily widened its base of recurring, non-telecom income. The company's strategy of layering DX, finance and energy services on top of its mobile customer base continues to diversify earnings away from a maturing domestic communications market.
Balance sheet and cash flow stay robust
Total assets stood at ¥19,063,364 million at year-end, with total equity of ¥5,592,690 million and equity attributable to owners of ¥5,076,738 million, for an equity-attributable ratio of 26.6% and book value per share of ¥1,333.50. Operating cash flow reached ¥1,788,853 million, and cash and cash equivalents stood at ¥1,078,807 million, underpinning continued investment in network and growth businesses alongside generous shareholder returns.
Dividend lifted to ¥80; FY2027 adjusted profit guided higher
KDDI raised its annual dividend for FY2026 to ¥80.00 per share (¥40 interim + ¥40 year-end, on the post-split basis), for a payout ratio of 43.6% and total distributions of ¥304,566 million. For FY2027, it forecasts a further increase to ¥84.00 (¥42 + ¥42), a payout of 42.8%. KDDI guides on an adjusted basis, excluding non-recurring and large one-off costs as well as portfolio items: it targets FY2027 revenue of ¥6,410,000 million (+5.6%), adjusted operating profit of ¥1,210,000 million (+5.0%) and adjusted profit attributable to owners of ¥731,000 million (+2.7%), equivalent to adjusted EPS of ¥196.29. The outlook signals management's confidence in sustaining mid-single-digit growth as the non-telecom businesses scale.
