Business Description
Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. produces electronic components built on its own ceramic materials technology. Multilayer ceramic capacitors, or MLCCs, are the core product and the company holds the largest global share; the range also covers inductors, EMI filters, communication modules, surface acoustic wave filters, sensors and lithium-ion batteries.
Smartphones remain the biggest end market — a single high-end handset contains around a thousand MLCCs — with automotive electronics the main growth driver, since electric and driver-assist systems multiply the component count per vehicle. Founded in Kyoto in 1944 and incorporated in 1950, Murata earns the overwhelming majority of revenue outside Japan.
