Business Description
Toyota Tsusho handles metals, global parts and logistics, automotive distribution, machinery and energy, chemicals and electronics, and food and consumer goods. Around half of profit is tied to the Toyota group — steel processing, parts supply and vehicle distribution — which makes earnings steadier than at the resource-led trading houses but also more dependent on one customer.
Its distinguishing asset is CFAO, the French distribution group acquired in 2012, which gives it vehicle, pharmaceutical and consumer distribution across more than thirty African countries — a footprint no other Japanese trading house matches. Founded in 1948 and merged with Tomen in 2006, the company is roughly a fifth owned by Toyota Motor.
