Business Description
Mizuho Financial Group, Inc. is the holding company for a banking group created out of the 2000-02 combination of Dai-Ichi Kangyo Bank, Fuji Bank and the Industrial Bank of Japan. It operates through Mizuho Bank, Mizuho Trust & Banking and Mizuho Securities, and is organised into in-house company units covering retail, corporate, global corporate, global markets and asset management.
Its inheritance from the Industrial Bank of Japan gives it unusually deep relationships with large Japanese corporates, and it has built out US investment banking, notably through the acquisition of Greenhill. The group has also been the most vocal of the three megabanks about digital transformation following a series of well-publicised system failures in 2021.
