Business Description
Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc. is the holding company for Japan's oldest and largest non-life insurance group, founded in 1879 as Tokio Marine Insurance. Domestic operations run through Tokio Marine & Nichido for property and casualty and Tokio Marine & Nichido Life for life insurance.
The international business is the group's distinguishing feature: acquisitions of Philadelphia Consolidated, Delphi Financial, HCC Insurance and Pure Group have made North America the largest single profit contributor, with additional operations across Europe, Asia and Latin America. That geographic spread is intended to diversify away from Japanese natural-catastrophe exposure, above all typhoon and earthquake risk.
