Business Description
NTT, Inc. — formerly Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation — is the holding company for Japan's incumbent telecom group. Its main units are NTT Docomo in mobile, NTT East and NTT West in fixed-line and fibre access, and NTT DATA in global IT services and data centres, alongside a regional and real-estate arm.
Privatised in 1985 from the state monopoly, the group remains roughly a third owned by the Japanese government. Growth now depends less on domestic telecom subscriptions, which are mature, than on data centres, systems integration and the long-horizon IOWN optical-network programme; NTT executed a 25-for-1 stock split in 2023 to widen retail ownership.
