Ono Sokki Swings to a Nine-Month Profit as Hybrid-Car Test-Bench Demand Lifts Sales 19%

The sound, vibration and engine-testing equipment maker grew net sales 19.2% to ¥10,647 million in the nine months to September 30 and swung to an operating profit of ¥226 million from a ¥227 million loss, in a period that usually runs at a loss because of the seasonality of its sales. Automakers' renewal of test facilities for hybrid and combustion engines drove the turnaround, and net profit attributable to owners of the parent came to ¥150 million. Orders rose 5.7% to ¥12,155 million.

Ono Sokki 9M FY12/2026 earnings summary

A seasonal loss turns into a profit

Ono Sokki Co., Ltd. (TSE: 6858) reported consolidated results for the first nine months of FY12/2026, January 1 to September 30, 2026, on October 26, 2026 under Japanese GAAP. Net sales rose 19.2% to ¥10,647 million, and the company posted an operating profit of ¥226 million, an ordinary profit of ¥279 million and net profit attributable to owners of the parent of ¥150 million, against losses of ¥227 million, ¥175 million and ¥246 million a year earlier. Orders rose 5.7% to ¥12,155 million and the order backlog grew 10.1% to ¥10,558 million. It also began a NEDO-funded development project with the TRAMI automotive powertrain research association on ultra-high-speed motors above 50,000 rpm for compact electric drivetrains.

Test benches lead

Custom test equipment and services grew sales 28.3% to ¥7,277 million and swung to a segment profit of ¥256 million from a ¥14 million loss. As automakers re-evaluate hybrids and internal combustion engines, customers have shifted from modifying equipment and outsourcing toward full-scale facility renewals, mainly for hybrids, and the company captured that demand with emissions and fuel-economy certification equipment and its VRS simulation benches. Measuring instruments grew orders 6.5% to ¥3,738 million and sales 3.4% to ¥3,358 million, narrowing its loss to ¥31 million from ¥209 million, with demand from the automotive and semiconductor industries for sound-level meters, vibration meters, signal-analysis systems and non-contact thickness gauges.

Balance sheet, outlook and dividend

Total assets rose 4.7% to ¥22,796 million and net assets 3.1% to ¥17,116 million, with the equity ratio at 73.7%. The company kept its FY12/2026 forecast: net sales of ¥15,000 million (+10.1%), operating profit of ¥1,100 million (+86.8%), ordinary profit of ¥1,200 million and net profit of ¥800 million, roughly double last year. It paid an interim dividend of ¥15 and plans ¥15 at year-end, for an annual ¥30 against ¥22 last year.
