Business Description
Oriental Land runs the Tokyo Disney Resort in Urayasu, Chiba under a long-term licence from The Walt Disney Company, paying royalties on revenue while owning the parks outright. Theme-park admissions, merchandise and food account for most of sales, with hotels and the Ikspiari retail complex making up the rest.
Because it owns rather than franchises, the economics differ sharply from Disney's own parks: capital projects such as the ¥320 billion Fantasy Springs expansion, opened in 2024, sit on Oriental Land's balance sheet, and so does the pricing power. Variable-price tickets introduced in recent years have lifted per-guest spending well beyond attendance growth. Founded in 1960 to reclaim the Urayasu shoreline, the company opened Tokyo Disneyland in 1983.
