Business Description
Mitsubishi Electric reports across five segments. Infrastructure covers power systems, transport equipment, defence and space; Industry and Mobility holds the factory-automation control business and automotive electronics; Life spans building systems such as elevators and escalators as well as air conditioners and home appliances; and the remaining two are Business Platform and Semiconductor and Device, which makes power modules and high-frequency components.
Factory automation — programmable controllers, servo motors and inverters — and the air-conditioning business inside Life are the two largest profit contributors, giving the group exposure to both the capital-spending cycle and building demand. A series of quality-inspection failures disclosed from 2021 prompted a governance overhaul and a sharper focus on returns on capital. The company was established in 1921, spun out of Mitsubishi Shipbuilding's works in Kobe.
