Business Description

Panasonic Holdings adopted a holding-company structure in 2022, under which its operating companies run largely on their own. The largest are Panasonic Energy, which supplies cylindrical lithium-ion cells to Tesla from plants in Japan and the United States; Panasonic Connect, in supply-chain software and industrial devices; Panasonic Industry, in electronic components; and a lifestyle business covering appliances, air conditioning and housing equipment.

The battery arm is the group's most closely watched line, supported by U.S. production tax credits while remaining exposed to the pace of electric-vehicle adoption. Management has set explicit return targets for each operating company and has said businesses that cannot meet them will be restructured or sold. The company was founded in 1918 by Konosuke Matsushita and incorporated in 1935; it traded as Matsushita Electric Industrial until 2008.
