Business Description
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries builds large capital equipment across three business domains. Energy Systems covers gas and steam turbines, boilers, nuclear plants and the long-running service contracts attached to them; Plants & Infrastructure spans chemical and metals plants, material handling and commercial aircraft structures; and Logistics, Thermal & Drive Systems makes forklift trucks, air conditioners, turbochargers and engines.
Alongside them sits a defence and space arm supplying missiles, naval vessels and the H3 launch vehicle, which has become the group's fastest-growing line as Japan raises defence spending toward 2% of GDP. Gas turbines are the other swing factor, with orders lifted by data-centre power demand and by the replacement of coal-fired generation. Incorporated in its present form in 1950, the company traces its origins to a Nagasaki shipyard that began operating in 1884.
