Business Description
Honda reports in four segments: motorcycles, automobiles, power products and other, and financial services. Motorcycles dominate globally, with volumes concentrated in India, Vietnam, Indonesia and Brazil, and they earn margins well above the car business; automobiles sell mainly into North America, Japan and China.
Hybrids carry current profits while the company invests heavily in electrification, and a separate aerospace arm produces the HondaJet light business jet. Founded by Soichiro Honda in 1948, it remains unusual among Japanese carmakers in having no keiretsu parent, and it long ran its research arm, Honda R&D, as a separate company. The head office moved to Toranomon in central Tokyo from its long-time Aoyama address.
